Linguistic Layers of the Castaldo Codex
Synopsis
The present study examines the linguistic layers of the so-called Castaldo Codex (Biblioteca Ambrosiana, G275 Inf). The examples represent the languages used in Transylvania in the sixteenth century, during the decisive events leading to the establishment of the independent Principality. However, as we shall see, we can also differentiate between distinct internal layers of Latin and Italian.
